In 2004, I was asked to produce a video for the very first “The Good The Bad The Indie” film festival, hosted by EpFilm. I decided to produce a music video for one of the songs by my musical alter ego Mano Sol entitled “Dub Shack”. Since it had a Hawaiian theme to the song, I decided to animate hula girl dolls, as well as other island decor. I took photos of a couple of hula dolls that I already had as well as a tiki pole pen, imported some other pics that I found online, and animated everything in After Effects. I also had the help of Gilbert Chavarria, who provided the shooting star animation, and Robert Reyes, who provided his hand in the Mano Sol animated sun. The final video took 17 hours to render on a dual processor G5 PowerMac (had I used my G4 iMac, it would have taken over a week to render!). Edited in Final Cut Pro X, Adobe After Effects and MOTU Digital Performer. Music composed, recorded and mixed in MOTU Digital Performer.
